This project is focused on preventing malnutrition in school-aged children in Haiti. By serving school children a peanut based Ready-to-Use Food (RUTF) that provides the daily nutrition they need to thrive, this program also improves school attendance as it often may be the only food a child receives regularly during the day.
The RUTF is produced in Meds & Food for Kids’ factory in Cap Haitien; the Hickey Family Foundation participated in funding the original construction, including support for solar power for operations. The finished sachets of RUTF produced at the factory are also sold to distribution partners including UNICEF, the World Food Programme and Haiti’s Bureau de Nutrition et Développement.
